Dear Parent/ Guardians,
It is hard to believe that December is upon us already. The holiday season is fast approaching and I am working hard to organize activities to make it memorable for your child. Some important dates to remember this month are on December 19th we will be having a small Christmas party. I will contact a few parents to send in some healthy treats for this day. Also, the Christmas concert will be on December 15th at 1 pm. In November, I had the pleasure of meeting most you during parent-teacher interviews. However, if you were unable to come during that time please give me a call or leave a note in your child’s agenda so we can set up a time to meet.
There are several changes to the homework this month. For the month of December we will be switching to weekly homework in Math. On Monday homework will be sent home with your child to be returned Friday. Another change this month is with regards to the reading logs. Instead of a weekly reading log, it will now be monthly. It will require a parent signature and comment each time your child reads. Each child should be reading at least 15 minutes every night. This is extremely important to ensure your child is progressing and is also a special time you can spend together. One final change to the homework this month is that we will be starting current events research. Each week four students will be selected to research a current event that interests them. The article may come from the internet or newspaper. I will give each student a “Something to Crow About” outline to help them in organizing. Perhaps they were required to do something similar to this in an earlier grade and therefore feel comfortable selecting an article on their own. If not, you may consider helping them choose an article the first time they present one. When your child is selected the outline will go home on Monday and will be due the following Monday. Please ensure you attach the article they have chosen to the outline. It is very important that all homework is turned in on time. First, it teaches your child responsibility and accountability. Secondly, it will keep their work organized.
The winter months are now here and this means the cold weather is also here. Please ensure .your child has a warm coat, snow pants, boots, hats and mitts for those chilly days. Even on days that seem quite mild the wind can make it very chilly. Also, if your child is not feeling well please keep them home so we can help prevent the spread of germs. I appreciated your co-operation in this matter.

If I do not see you by the end of the month, I wish you and your family a Happy Holidays.

Yours truly,

Terri-Ann Waye
