Hospitality and Tourism Topics to Review for the Midterm

1. Study the answers to your text book questions p.20 # 1-4, 6 and the 8 questions I gave you from chapter 2. (Make special note of the personal questions on push/pull factors, the “in practice box” and what it would be like for people to travel who have different disabilities. But all questions are equally valid and may appear on Tuesday’s midterm.)

2. Tourism NB website notes:
A) list the 5 scenic drives, where they go, and 3 key points along each
B) list and give a fact about each of the 8 cities in New Brunswick
C) Match the key attractions in NB to their descriptions given in class.

3. “If you were hosting a special event or conference, what 3 things would you do to make it great, and what 3 things would you try to prevent to make it better.”

4. List and describe the 8 tourism trade sectors, the 8 reasons for the growth of tourism.

5. Matching the following:
(A) Definitions: trip, foreign tourist, inbound tourists, outbound tourists, domestic tourists, travel deficit, multiplier effect, leakage, hosts, guests.
(B) Recognize Canada’s 5 national priorities for tourism development.
(C) Recognize the 8 steps in planning a new tourist development.
(D) Know the issues and constraints for tourism development in Canada.

6. Give 2 things that make you a tourist, and two that do not.
